Dildo Material

Dildo Material:

From the early times dildos were made of various materials. They were cut out of stone, wood, leather, wax or pottery. Better technology produced better materials.

What particular feel do you prefer? If you want a life like feel then you probably should choose one made from Cyberskin, silicone, UR3, or any of the other lifelike materials. Each one feels like human skin to some degree and each has very different care and cleaning instructions. Cyberskin is delicate and requires special care while silicone is extremely durable.

However if you don't mind a dildo that is not as realistic then you may want to try either a plastic or jelly material. Plastic is usually hard and inflexible and jelly is often soft and pliable.

  • Cybersin: Cyberskin was the first skin-like material developed for sex toys. It looks and feels very much like human skin with is's smooth, soft and flexible feel it even maintains body heat once it is warmed. Since Cyberskin is porous like latex and jelly, it must be cleaned carefully with soap and water or a cyberskin cleaning solution.
  • Silicone: This high quality lifelike material makes one of the more expensive dildos. If you want a realistic dildo that has a warm realistic feel and absorb and retains body heat, then this is the meterial for you. Silicone is a very tough high quality meterial and it is very easy to clean. All you need is soap and hot water or you can even boil a non mechanical silicone toy or put it in your dishwasher. Silicone is also non-porous so it is less likely to allow bacteria to grow so there fore it is less likely to spread germs between users. However it is still wise to use a condom when ever sharing a sex toy.

This high quality material is very tough and unless you dig your nails or teeth into it, it will last for a very long time.

  • UR3: UR3 is a new material that is still being evaluated for durabiliy but it is holding up to the challenge. It seems to more durable then Cyberskin and when it comes to the realistic materials, UR3 is the easiest to clean and care for. Sex toys made with this material have a very reailistic look and feel.
  • Glass: A glass dildo may sound like a strange or even dangerous idea however they are not only very save but very beautiful as well. They are usually made of Pyres glass which is an extremely strong, scratch and chip resistant material.

They have smooth sleek surfaces and vary in many glowing colors. These beautiful works of art are one of the more expensive dildos but they are very functional.

  • Metal: This uncommon dildo is hard and shiny and is similar to plastic with it's hard generally smooth exterior which is very easy to clean.
  • Acrylic: Acrylic, a 'specialty' material is a form of plastic. Since the visual properties are similar to glass, acrylic dildos are often very beautiful. They are also very durable, easy to clean, and are often difficult to damage. Acrylic dildos often last a lifetime.
  • Plastic: Plastic sex toys usually are inflexible, have hard, smooth exteriors and are usually sleek, rigid and firm. It is often the material used for the outside casting of Duotone Balls. This is a very easy material to clean - all you have to do one of the following:
    • clean with a sex toy cleaner
    • wash with soap and water
    • wipe with a alcohol dipped paper towel tissue or napkin
  • Jelly: Jelly dildos are soft and pliable and feel smooth yet retains some rigidity. The word makes most people think of a very soft squish material however they are not as squishy as you think. Depending on the brand the firmness of jelly toys can range from the consistency of a hard boiled egg to the cold stick of butter.

They are close in look and texture to silicone, however are not as smooth and lifelike.

Jelly is smooth and soft but firmer than silicone. They are also much more porous than silicone - so it isn't wise to share them unless you use a condom. Warm water is the best way to clean them. Never use rubbing alcohol, and always use water based lubrication or they will deteriorate if exposed to a non-water based lubricant or rubbing alcohol. It may be a good idea to purchase some cleaner specifically designed for sex toys. Since they are very porous, it is harder to remove germs from the surface, but a good sex toy cleaner will kill any bacteria leaving a clean, fresh scent. Although soap and water will also work, it will not sterilize the surface.

Jelly is a great dildo for those that want a realistic feel of silicone without the higher price.

  • Latex

Latex is another name for rubber, and latex dildos do feel rubbery. This is the choice for those who want a soft and inexpensive toy. Latex combines the features of silicone and jelly making a much more affordable sex toy.

Latex dildos are a great choice for those who want to experiment with different dildos. They are generally less expensive then most other materials however they don't last as long as silicone or jelly and are rather porous making them difficult to clean and not sharable unless you use condom.

Many people however find them enjoyably satisfying, and consider them a low-cost alternative to some of the more expensive materials.

Remember, if you plan on sharing a latex dildo, be sure to use a condom. Soap and warm water is the preferred way to clean a latex toy. Some people are allergic to latex and should not use latex dildos. Consider purchasing a silicone or jelly sex toy.
